Remarks: Often referred to as the Princess of Burundi (a country that makes up the northeastern border of Lake Tanganyika), Neolamprologus brichardi is truly a beautiful beginner cichlid. This variant is from Kipili, which is towards the southern part of the lake, in Tanzania. They have long trailers on their fins and a lovely pearlescent fishnet pattern of cream, yellow, and blue on their scales. Their faces have iridescent blue lines that shine as they turn.
Neolamprologus brichardi inhabit rocky areas of Lake Tanganyika and will prefer to have several piles of rock in the tank. Breeding will take place in the crevices between rocks. They get along well with Altolamprologus, Julidochromis, and other Neolamprologus.
These fish are fascinating to keep, as they are the only known African cichlid to take part in multi-generational rearing of fry. As they spawn, each older generation, regardless of how much older, will help raise the fry of nearby pairs. They are seen by the thousand in Tanganyika, schooling and rearing fish from yolk-sac to full adult.
