Annie's Goby (Stiphodon annieae)
Out of stock
Remarks: Gobies from Indonesia are some of the most spectacular freshwater fish in the hobby. They are adorned with bright, eccentric patterns of all different colors, and their oddly-shaped dorsal fins make for excellent displays. Annie's Gobies (Stiphodon annieae) are no exception, and might be among the prettiest of all. Males are neon red with a blue stripe down their back, along with bright red dorsal fins.
Gobies are found in fast-flowing streams with a variable gravel substrate. Here, they use their evolved fusiform body shape and modified pelvic fins to grip onto smooth rocks and graze on the aufwuchs, or microorganisms, that grow in the algae on the surface. In the aquarium, you can replicate this by providing a tank with variable sized river rocks and very bright light, encouraging algae growth. They will also take brine shrimp and some prepared foods, such as Repashy products.
